We can do this! We will do this!

Thank you Lasalle family! As you already know, our fundraising has been so successful that we will sustain all of our teacher positions for the 2016/2017 school year!! In addition, we have secured enough funds to ensure lunchroom support, our after school math/reading tutoring, and other after school programming!

Since we launched the SOS campaign, we have raised an amazing $101,604 in direct donations. We are also expecting almost $10,000 in matching donations.

As I have shared previously, I have written three appeals to CPS: one to restore our Title II funds, one to rightsize our special education funding, and one as a general funding appeal. I’m thrilled to announce that my general funding appeal was successful and CPS has granted us an additional $175,000 to pay for staff. This puts us in a position where we can also hire a world language teacher to replace Mr. Belizaire and may not need the entire donation the Friends of LaSalle has so generously offered us. Many thanks to our incredible Network Chief, Ernesto Matias, for his steadfast support!!

I will be able to share more specific information about our budget toward the end of next week once the budget has dropped and settled. Many thanks to so many of you for your passionate support of LaSalle during this difficult time.

However, we are still fundraising for several critical purposes. We continue to build our reserves to cover any unexpected costs that will arise this year and next. We remain underfunded in special education and will likely identify additional students who need services this year. We will have to cover salary increases for teachers once a contract is in place. Importantly, we still do not have a budget. We have a continuing resolution for the next 6 months and then will be back in this position if our politicians continue to place education in the middle of a political fight.

Many of you have already given, and again, we cannot thank you enough for your support. We have 6 weeks until the start of the school year. Even if you cannot give, consider supporting with one of these additional activities:

1. Email your family and friends and share the link to our SOS campaign – there are many people who love our children who may want to lend a hand
2. Post the link to our SOS campaign on your social media – let’s get this thing viral
3. If you have connections with the extended Lasalle community – our past students and alumni, please let them know that Lasalle needs them!
